I want that shoe!
Woohoo! The weekend is here again. Finally I can get some rest and relaxation, something that I am seriously, seriously lacking. Unfortunately, I think I have to type my IA report over the weekend cos I'm planning (have to) to submit my first draft by the week after next (i.e. the 25th of Apr). I can't believe our IA is almost over. In some ways I'm looking forward to its end, cos I can rest, yet I know I would definitely miss the tutorial-free nights and totally free weekends.
Well, if you have been monitoring the news, or more correctly, advertisements, you'd know about the new adidas shoe is out. I think about a year back they announced its development. What's so special about this shoe? Well, it has a microchip inside. And its no puny one either - it's capable of 5 million calculations per second (sweet!).
Adidas developed this shoe with the runner in mind. Basically, what the microchip does is adjust the shock absorbing cylinder at the heel of the shoe. This adjustment is made by sensors that "monitors changes in weight, pace and surface type over 1000 times per second." From these measurements, the microchip calculates how much it should turn the mini-motor to tighten or loosen the cable connected to the shock absorbing cylinder, hence providing better protection for the runner.
To make things even better, adidas even put in a mini control panel at the insole of the shoe so that the wearer can adjust the softness or firmness of the heel. The bad news is, it costs a bomb (of course), it is currently a limited edition, and the thing runs on batteries (i.e. it'll run out of juice one day, and there's no mention on how to change the batteries).
So, simply put, this would be my dream shoe (and I seldom dream of shoes...), but I won't buy it for 2 reasons. The first is of course the prohibitive cost, while the second is that I know that I wouldn't be able to contain my curiousity for long, so I'll soon tear apart the shoe to see how the innards work (which is definitely not the best way to spend my hard earned $$). Yup, so I'd probably wait a few years (or decades) till I can buy it at some $ale! Yes I admit I'm CheapSkate, but if you aren't a cheapskate go buy one, and I'll help you do the honours by tearing it apart.
No quote today cos the adidas site is made using flash. However, I'll post this cool pic. And oh, in case you are wondering, the shoe is called the Adidas_1. Guess the Adidas engineers won this round of the "Name the Shoe" game.
