Google Earth

It's been a long time since I last posted. Haha. After the exams I've been busy finishing up my FYP as well as taking some R&R.

Finally, my university life has come to an end. I won't deny that I will be missing uni life especially the holidays, but I am also partly looking forward to working. Lazing around at home all day just doesn't seem as fulfilling as it used to. Anyway I got a job and will be starting work on the 3rd of July. Seems so far now, and yet it isn't far enough to go on a long holiday. Hehehe.

In this post I want to talk about Google Earth. Its a facinating software that you guys should go look at if you haven't already. You can get it here.

The following are some screen shots I took. The first one should be familiar to most of you as its an overview of the tiny island nation we call home. The sad part is that the island of Bintan just south is already larger than we are...

The next screen shot shows the area I live in. If you've been here, you should recognise it. Otherwise, too bad. ;)

Anyway, the details are amazing. For cities in the US/UK, you can zoom to the levels you see in the movies, where cars, people and other small objects are visible. Unfortunately, for the rest of the globe's cities, you can only get medium level details like the one of my area.

But what I love most about it though is that I can use it for a virtual tour around the world's most famous locations, like the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower, the Grand Canyon(in 3D no less) and a place I would love to visit - the Pyramids of Egypt.

So although I am unable to actually visit these places during this time, I think I am still partially satisfied with being able to see photographs of them. :) Plus, I think this software also makes for a great way to plan your next holiday!
