How to Woo a Good Girl

I just got back from an outing with my buddies. Been a long time since I had a full day of nothing to do except play. Haha. And play we did, but only 2 hours of pool. Short but still quite satisfying nonetheless. I think I need to go out more often to play. Staying at home after more or less working my whole June holidays away isn't actually giving me any more "utility", to use an Economics term.

Anyway, for those guys out there who are still single, there has been an experiment carried out that shows that to woo a girl you should give her expensive, but essentially "worthless" gifts. Why? Well, according to the study, if a male gives a female cheap gifts, she will assume he is not serious about her. And if the male gives her expensive and valuable gifts (e.g. diamonds) some females might take the chance to be a "gold-digger".

So the correct strategy is for the guy to give her gifts like an expensive meal or an expensive theatre ticket, gifts with no intrinsic value. By doing so, uninterested females would have little incentive to accept, gaining no return on what could be just a simple waste of an evening. While an interested one would go as she would see the "value" in the company of a person she likes.

Apparently this strategy works well for both sexes as the female can gauge how "serious" the male is about the relationship, while the male can avoid getting cheated. Of course, the occassional expensive and valuable gift for the girl still must be given, but the trick is not to give it at the start.

Well, so now you guys know what to give a girl whom you are interested in for your first date. Maybe a dinner at some expensive restaurant (no not McDonalds), followed up by a nice theatre show at the Esplanade (actually a movie would do too, given that current movie ticket prices are almost comparable to some theatre tickets...) and maybe a bouquet of flowers to go along. Sounds good right?

Men who spend big money wining and dining their dates are not frittering away hard-earned cash. According to a pair of UK researchers, they are merely employing the best strategy for getting the girl without being taken for granted.

Using mathematical modelling, Peter Sozou and Robert Seymour at University College London, UK, found that wooing girls with costly, but essentially worthless gifts – such as theatre tickets or expensive dinners out – is a winning courtship strategy for both sexes.

Females can assess how serious or committed a male plans to be and males can ensure they are not just seducing ‘gold-diggers’ – girls who take valuable presents with no intention of accepting subsequent dates.

And if you're a poor college student and cannot afford expensive gifts or Esplanade tickets without giving up a week of lunch then another method is do things like bake cookies for her and putting it in a nice box. Its all about effort her and working your way to her stomach is like work your way to her heart

Haha. Not really. I think I go for the more cheapskate but honest, true hearted route. I'm a poor student mah... ;)

And thanks for the congrats!

>>Bunkmate: Yup, nice tips, but you gotta know how to bake first... which is sth I can't do. Maybe a nice bowl of instant noodles could do...
