Life Spans
This seems like a particularly slow week so far for me. I guess it's because I'm still trying to finish up my projects. Now I'm in the integration phase, and because I'm integrating my program with someone else's program, it is really taking a long time.
Anyway, today I am going to discuss the topic of life spans. I decided to look this up cos one of my IA friends asked a simple question over lunch the other day - "How long can an ant live?" And I realised that I didn't know the answer. Despite being such a pest in our daily lives, it never occured to me to check out how long each ant could live. Whether it was possible to wait and let the ants live out their lives, without having to prematurely end it by emptying a can of insecticide.
I also checked out the life spans of other common insects/animals, since I realised I didn't know how long a fly or a mosquitoe was supposed to live either. Anyway here's the list of life expectancies:

7) Crow - 20 years
8) Dog - 22 years
9) Elephant - 70 years
10) Fly - 1 month
11) Lizard(common house) - 7 years
12) Mosquito:
Male - 15 days
Female - 51 days
13) Mouse - 4 years
14) Mynah - 8 years
15) Pig(wild) - 25 years
16) Pigeon - 26 years
17) Rabbit - 9 years
18) Sheep - 15 years
19) Tiger - 22 years
20) Zebra - 17 years

... realise one thing, some of the female species tend to live longer than males in ur list...
maybe it's the same for human beings as well?

Also, males willingly live shorter lives so that they can escape the torture that is the female nagging. :P
That and possibly cos males traditionally take up more high risk jobs and activities resulting in an unfortunate early demise...

it says that probably it's due to menopause...

ya.. was just going to say that guys undergo different kind of menopause which is andropause too...
