The Naming of Chinese Calendar Years

Today I'm a little busy cos I'm back in school and I have to catch up on my research project that I've been neglecting due to my illness. So, I'll make this a short post.

Below is something that I never really understood - the cycle of the Chinese Calendar years. Actually, its the cycle of naming Chinese calendar years. If you've never noticed, go take a look at any Chinese calendar and you'll find that each year is given a name and this name is different from the 12 astrological animals.

As I found out, this "naming cycle" is repeated every 60 years and, prior to 1911, restarted everytime a new Emperor accended the throne (which I guess meant that most Emperors usually either lived to about 60 or gave up their throne by then). The current year is name as in box number 22 in the image below. So the next lunar year would be named as the words in the number 23 box and so on.

Well, the Chinese calendar is definitely more complex than what I described above, so in case you want to know more click here.
