DIY UFO

With the long weekend coming up (Hurray!) I guess many of us will be looking forward to some rest and some relaxation. Well, if you want to have a little "fun" and experiment a little with physics, you might want to try building your own UFO!

Haha. Well, not a real UFO, cos you'd know what it was and it wouldn't be Unidentified now would it? But, it would basically be the closest "working" model to a UFO that you could every build using household materials. What I am posting about today is something called an "anti-gravity" lifter. It does not really use anti-gravity technology, but rather something else called ion-wind.

What is this "anti-gravity" lifter? Well, its something like a UFO. After you build it and power it up, it will hover, silently, with no moving parts whatsoever. And the materials needed to build it are simple and easily obtainable (except for one thing - the power supply).

What you need:
• 2mm by 6mm balsa-wood strips (or any light material like styrofoam)
• 30-gauge enameled copper magnet-wire
• Aluminum Foil
• 1 Tube “Super-Glue” or “Krazy-Glue” Brand cyanoacrylate adhesive
• Sewing Thread
• 1 hobby knife
• 1 25,000+ volt DC Power supply (or an old CRT PC monitor)
• 1 Scotch-Brand tape roll

Now all you need to do is to follow the instructions and you can build your own lifter in no time. As Cat would always say "NPNT", so here's a picture of a completed lifter in mid air.

In case you think that the picture above is a trick made using a computer, I can assure you it is not. And in case my assurance is not enough, you can always visit this site, for more pictures and information on lifters.

Of course, for those die-hard skeptics, you could just build one yourself and test out the theory, which is something that I plan to do (when I have the time). Anyone want to join me? All I need is to find an old working monitor (or a High Voltage power source) that no one wants...Donations are welcome! :)

WARNING: The high voltages in the power supply or monitor can kill. Do not attempt to build the lifter without taking proper safety precautions. For more safety information refer to the Safety Guidelines.

Yup. Remember the picture tube of the monitor, it requires a very large potential difference between the electron gun and the screen so that the electrons will accelerate towards the screen.

So they have a High Voltage source there. But I forgot to add that it is very dangerous as well.
