How I wish I could teleport...

After 1 and a half months of going to work, 5 days a week, I am really starting to dislike public transport. Well, not all public transport. Taxis are fine of course, and, most of the time, the MRT is too (although I have a major gripe over the timing of the trains at the interchanges, esp the Jurong East one). However, I personally think that our busses (SBS) needs to improve...a lot.

The timing of the buses is seldom accurate (I can tolerate maybe 5-10mins) but some buses are late by 15 mins or more! And the worse part is that a second bus of the same service is just behind! And SBS has the cheek to constantly raise the bus fares. I know its a monopolistic market, and I know that we've no choice but to take SBS busses, but I still feel that we deserve better service for what we are paying.

Good news may be on the way, if the USA or China government's covert research on teleportation comes through with a working piece of technology. Labs have already managed to teleport matter consisting of a billion or so atoms. So, I (REALLY) hope that they will get it right for humans within the next couple of decades. Unless of course SBS gets to run the service in Singapore, then I think we'll all end up with slow, problematic and high cost teleportation.

Teleportation has long been a staple of science fiction yarns. People are magically zapped from one location to another, or even to another time or dimension.

Last year, a Las Vegas scientist wrote a paper for the U.S. Air Force that argued teleportation is an achievable technology and legitimate science. The report caused an international flap and was denounced as a waste of money. With permission from the Air Force, the scientist is talking publicly about his study for the first time. He spoke exclusively with the Eyewitness News I-Team.

When most of us think of teleportation, Kirk, Spock, and the Enterprise come to mind.

"Teleportation isn't dematerialization which is what Star Trek sci-fi method does. Teleportation is to take the animate or inanimate object and literally move it, instantaneously across space time or thru dimensions," said Dr. Eric Davis, theoretical physicist.

Yea dude,

Public Transportation Blows!!! I'm not sure but was there a period of time where they had those electronic signboards where they told you how much longer it would take for the bus to arrive at the bus stop??? Maybe it was a different country. But hey they should implement that system. I mean they already have the darn infrastructure, how else do those annoying ez-link machines at the exits knows what "level" or how much money to deduct from your card... I think Comfort Taxis should run the bus systems... they seem to be better in knowing the locations of their cabs.

I think we all have some complaints against our so called "world-class" transportation system...

I also have the same problem sometimes at my workplace. The worse thing is that if I had walked to the MRT station instead of waiting for the bus, I'd reach there earlier!

>>bunkmate:
Haha! Good idea. Maybe you should suggest that to SBS. Hmm... maybe not, cos they'd probably implement the system, and say that it costs a lot and ask us to pay more for the rides. And at the end of the day the buses will still be late (the only difference is we will know how late they are!).
