Busy busy day
Today was a super busy day at work. Went to work at the usual 0830 and finished up my powerpoint slides just in time cos at about 10 my supervisor came in and asked me to present to him what I have learnt so far (which is basically summarised in 3 Powerpoint slideshows totalling about 130 slides).
So I spent the next 4 hours going through the 2 short slide shows (about 50 slides) and then at 2 pm (stomach growling and all) I finally got to go for lunch. Not to say that I blame my supervisor. He was there all along with me and suffered all the same. Plus, he's super busy so I should conform to his schedule, and not the other way around. Anyway, he was nice enough to invite me to play a game of chinese chess with him over lunch, which is about the only relaxing period I had that day, cos after that is was back to reading the ever increasing stack of books and papers on my table...
As my stomach growled and rumbled this afternoon, it reminded me of a question that I once asked myself - Why must we eat? It seems so natural, so instinctive, that we must put food and water down our throats and into our stomachs everyday or we will die. But will we? Ever wondered what would happen if your dad/mom did not feed you solid food as you grew from a baby? What would you eat?
Well, surprisingly I found this article that claims that people CAN live without food and there are people who have done it! Of course everything I read on the internet I will always take with a pinch of salt, so I hope you will too. Anyway these people are called Autotrophs and here's a quote from the article:

Of course everything I read on the internet I will always take with a pinch of salt, so I hope you will too. Anyway these people are called Autotrophs and here's a quote from the article:
People all around the world were storming supermarkets and grocery stores on Christmas and New Year's Eve. There was a small group of people, though, who did not even think about eating anything for Christmas. In fact, they do not think about food at all. Such people call themselves autothrophs - they do not eat at all. The term designates an organism that makes its own food. Autotrophs can go on hunger strikes for years and even decades.
Irina Novozhilova, the president of the center for protection of animals' rights, expressed her opinion about phenomenal individuals, who can live without food and water.
"The idea to turn down food as it is appeared long ago. Russian philosophers, particularly Vernadsky, were thinking about a possibility for a human being to live on something non-material. Vernadsky was certain that man is an energetic creature that can nourish himself from the energy of space. Some people can prove it today that it is possible to live a normal life without physical food.
